Remember when BYD's Denza wowed Beijing with the Z Convertible? Not only is the droptop fully electric, but it also features a European-inspired design with its sleek looks. At the time, Denza said the Z will generate over 1,000 PS and can sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds.

Fast forward months later to the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Denza made a statement at the annual motoring event with the official debut of the Z supercar. Available in Coupe, Spider (convertible), and Racing variants, the Denza Z represents the pinnacle of performance and luxury in a stylish 2+2 grand tourer.

All variants of the Denza Z are built on the e Sports Car Platform, which combines performance and driving dynamics. Serving as the beating heart are three electric motors (one in the front and the two in the rear), which deliver a combined system output of 1,604 PS and 1,240 Nm of torque. Power is then supplied by a 76 kWh second-generation BYD Blade Battery, which gives the Coupe, Spider, and Racing variants a range of up to 408 km, 400 km, and 380 km, respectively, on the WLTP standard.

From a standstill, Denza says both the Coupe and Racing variants can hit 100 km/h in just 2.25 seconds, while the Spider can do it in 2.3 seconds. However, the Racing variant can catapult itself from 0 to 100 km/h in only 1.96 seconds when equipped with the optional semi-slick tires. All three variants are also capable of reaching a top speed of 300 km/h, although the Racing version can reach nearly 350 km/h when fitted with the aforementioned optional semi-slick tire package.

Recharging the Denza Z can be done in two ways: the standard 11 kW AC charging system or with the brand's Flash Charging system, which is rated at 1500 kW. When hooked up to BYD's Flash Charging station, the Z can be recharged from 10% to 70% in just five minutes or from 10% to 97% in only 9 minutes.

Going fast means slowing down fast, and the Denza Z comes with six-piston brake calipers in the front and four-piston brake calipers in the back. To ensure it can stop on a dime, Denza fitted all four corners with carbon-ceramic disc brakes. Meanwhile, its suspension consist of double wishbones in the front with a multi-link setup in the back, complete with the brand's DiSuS-M intelligent damping system.

Design-wise, the all-new Denza Z features the brand's latest design ethos called Technology Drives Elegance. The result is a seamless blend of curves, aerodynamic elements, and an unmistakable sporty design penned by BYD Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger. In fact, Egger himself describes the Z as a “living sculpture of speed”, thanks to its overall shape and powerful presence.

Combined with its eye-catching, distinct LED headlights, sporty LED taillights, massive 20-inch alloy wheels (21 inches for the Racing Z), defined character lines on the bodywork, and the elegant design of the Spider variant, the Denza Z is a full-on exercise in design and beauty standards cranked up to 11.

Hop inside, and the Denza Z welcomes occupants into an equally elegant yet sporty cabin. Despite being an electric supercar, the Z comes with plenty of sports car attitude, including the flat-bottom steering wheel, the sport bucket seats, the two-tone interior finish, and the contrast stitching found throughout the cabin.

Also serving as a work of art is the steering wheel, which draws inspiration from motorsport. It has six physical buttons to help drivers set vehicle settings, such as the Track and Boost modes, as well as the infotainment system. Speaking of infotainment, the Denza Z comes with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, along with an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel.

Other in-car features available include power-adjustable heated/ventilated front seats with massage function, a 12-speaker sound system Devialet with built-in speakers on the headrests, a wireless charging pad, and folding rear seats that can store long items with ease.

“The Denza Z is born to perform and built to win. It redefines performance with its power, acceleration and dynamic ability – and Flash Charging means it's the only electric supercar without compromise on how these strengths can be used. Z is a great example of how Denza's technology-led approach is going to set new benchmarks in every segment it enters. It really is the supercar for the new-energy generation!” said Stella Li, BYD EVP.

With the Denza Z making its debut in the UK, the brand is not resting on its laurels as their next target is to develop the vehicle for an upcoming lap-record attempt at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife later this year.
