Remember when BYD revealed the Racco EV kei car during the 2025 Japan Mobility Show? Well, after giving the public a glimpse of its kei car, BYD has officially revealed the specifications and details of its electric kei car fighter.

Like the vehicle we saw last year at Tokyo Big Sight, the BYD Racco EV was designed with Japanese customers in mind. Not only does it feature a Japanese-inspired design, but it also follows the kei car standard when it comes to dimensions. In fact, the Racco measures 3395mm long, 1475mm wide, and 1800mm tall on a 2520mm wheelbase.

Despite its small size, its electric powertrain delivers quite the punch. The entry-level version gets a 22.4 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which gives it a range of up to 210 km, based on the WLTC standard. However, those who prefer something with more range can get the Premium version, which gets a bigger 35.84 kWh LFP battery and gives the Racco a range of up to 320 km on the WLTC cycle.

Recharging the Racco can be done in two ways: a 3kW wallbox charger or a slightly more powerful 6.6 kW AC charger. It even supports a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that can power appliances with up to 1,500W of power.

Propulsion comes in the form of a single electric motor that drives the front wheels and makes 64 PS with 160 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, 165/55 series tires wrapped in 15-inch alloy wheels transfer power to the pavement. Despite being a small kei car, the Racco EV comes with disc brakes on all four corners.

Speaking of big car features, the tiny BYD Racco EV also comes with electric sliding doors on both sides for easier ingress & egress. Despite being a four-seater, the BYD Racco has ample interior storage spaces like an insulated cupholder to keep hot drinks warm, a folding tray table for the rear passengers to hold drinks, food & other items, pocket sleeves to store phones, tablets & other devices, and hidden gloveboxes to store smaller items with ease.

Need to load up on items inside the Racco? With the rear seats deployed, the kei car can hold up to 280 liters worth of luggage. Fold them down, however, and cargo capacity expands to a generous 1,327 liters.

The BYD Racco is now available in Japan and starts at JPY 2.145 million (or PHP 807,415) and tops out at JPY 2.497 million (or PHP 939,914).

With BYD already being a popular brand in Japan, other Japanese automakers may want to take notice, as the BYD Racco could get a bigger slice of the kei car segment.
