BMW hits 2 millionth fully electric vehicle milestone
2 millionth electric BMW vehicle rolls off the assembly line
When talking about battery electric vehicles (BEVs), Chinese brands are often the first to come to mind, at least in the Philippine context. Locally referred to simply as “EVs,” the segment has become heavily dominated by Chinese manufacturers, while entries from European brands remain relatively rare.
Because of this, many may think that European automakers are already falling behind in the EV race. However, BMW recently reached a major milestone after rolling out its 2 millionth electric vehicle at its Dingolfing facility in Germany, which is destined for a customer in Spain. That’s 2 million EVs produced by a single European manufacturer.

To put that into perspective, around 460,000 vehicles traverse EDSA on a busy day. Multiply that figure by four, and that is roughly the scale of BMW’s EV production milestone.
According to BMW, its Dingolfing Plant began series production of all-electric vehicles in 2021 with the launch of the BMW iX. Today, the facility produces the widest range of battery electric vehicle models within the BMW Group lineup, including the BMW iX, BMW i5, and BMW i7.
Since 2021, the plant has produced more than 320,000 fully electric vehicles, meaning nearly one out of every six BEVs built by the BMW Group worldwide has come from Dingolfing. In 2025 alone, more than a quarter of the vehicles produced at the facility were already all-electric. Meanwhile, its Munich facility produces the i4 fully electric car.

As part of its BMW iFACTORY strategy, the company continues to push a technology-open manufacturing approach, allowing vehicles with different powertrains to be produced side by side on a single assembly line.
The Munich-based automaker added that every German BMW Group plant now produces at least one fully electric model. This strategy has also helped position Germany as the world’s second-largest production hub for electric vehicles, next only to China.
