When BMW launched the all-new iX3 and i3, it was the start of the brand’s new design direction. With an emphasis on a retro-inspired look combined with futuristic elements, the Neue Klasse iX3 and i3 represent BMW’s commitment to make its vehicles better not just in looks and design, but also in performance and amenities, while still keeping the signature sheer driving pleasure ethos.

Now, BMW has launched the refreshed version of the G70 7 Series, and boy, did it get a facelift. Based on first impressions, the 2027 model year update of the G70 7 Series may be the most substantial facelift yet on a BMW vehicle.

Starting with the most obvious, BMW heavily reworked the front fascia, giving it a more mature look. The flagship luxury sedan now comes with a flatter look that does away with the blocky face of its predecessor. The result is a bolder set of LED daytime running lights and a larger set of LED headlights.

Also getting a noticeable change is the signature dual kidney grille. While they are still illuminated, the massive grille is narrower, and its bars now run horizontally instead of vertically. Combined with the thinner LED DRLs and flatter look, the subtle change in the grille’s design has given the flagship sedan a more imposing look without being too bold.

BMW also made some changes to the rear of the 7 Series. It now comes with wider and larger LED taillights that nearly span the entire width of the vehicle. BMW also revised the design of the rear bumper, which gives the large sedan a slightly sportier look than before. Last but not least, the automaker installed new alloy wheel designs to go with the rest of the exterior changes, as well as a new two-tone Individual paint scheme, which takes around 75 hours to make.

Open the doors, and the 2027 7 Series now comes with some new technologies derived from the latest Neue Klasse vehicles. These include the newest version of BMW’s Panoramic Drive, which consists of a full-width digital instrument cluster called Panoramic Vision and a 17.9-inch free-floating infotainment display. The front passenger is also treated to a large 14.6-inch infotainment screen, which the pre-facelift version of the 7 Series can only wish to have. It supports both gaming and streaming to keep the front passenger entertained.

Those seated in the back are also treated to a large screen, 31.3 inches to be exact. But unlike the pre-facelift version, the huge 8K monitor is now a touchscreen for easier manipulation of its features. It also supports Zoom, an HDMI input for laptops or other devices, and even Dolby Atmos surround sound via an optional 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system. Those who prefer a standard sound system will not be disappointed, as it will still come with an 18-speaker sound system that also comes from Bowers & Wilkins.

As before, the 2027 7 Series is available as an EV, PHEV, or with internal combustion. Beginning with the former, the electric range starts with the i7 50 xDrive, which has 455 PS thanks to a pair of electric motors. Next is the more powerful i7 60 xDrive, which generates 563 PS and can cover up to 563 km on a single charge.

Those who still prefer good ol’ ICE can get the 740 and 740 xDrive variants. Both are powered by a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo inline-six, which puts out 400 PS (20 PS more than before). Last but not least is the plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive, which combines a 3.0L inline-six with an electric motor and a high-capacity battery pack. Not only does it get the benefit of an EV, but it also cranks out an impressive 490 PS combined.

Production of the 2027 BMW 7 Series will start in July 2026 at the brand’s Dingolfing plant. That means we could perhaps expect the updated 7 Series to arrive at our shores sometime next year.
