Toyota PH previews Modern PUV version of Tamaraw
Back in 2023, the first-ever prototype for the Toyota Tamaraw PUV was unveiled by no less than Toyota Motor Corporation’s Chairman Akio Toyoda. 3 years after its prototype, the Toyota Tamaraw MPUV is ready to serve the commuting public.

Toyota Motor Philippines has previewed the latest addition to the available body styles of the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw – the Modern PUV Class 1 version, giving transport groups and operators another reliable partner in bringing accessible public transportation to the masses.

The Tamaraw Modern PUV Class 1 is an out-house conversion body style, as the passenger cab is built by Toyota’s industry partner Almazora Motors Corporation. It features a raised ceiling for easier ingress and egress on its side-facing exit doors, and can seat a maximum of 10 passengers inside the passenger cab.

It also utilizes the long wheelbase layout of the next-generation Tamaraw, along with the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV turbodiesel engine that puts out 150 PS and 343 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.
The Toyota Tamaraw MPUV will retail for Php 1,389,000 and may qualify for the Php 210,000 subsidy being offered by the government for interested program applicants as part of Department Order No. 2023-018 by the Department of Transportation under the PUV Modernization Act.
“The Tamaraw is a workhorse—and a racehorse. It supports livelihoods, serves communities, and gives people something to cheer for. Today, we add an important missing piece: a jeepney. By becoming part of everyday public transportation, the Tamaraw becomes a true national car—a vehicle for all Filipinos,” said Toyota Motor Philippines president Masando Hashimoto during his speech at the preview event.

“Through the Tamaraw MPUV, let us bring our strengths together to make everyday life better—for commuters, transport operators, and communities. That is how we want to contribute to the Philippines: by delivering something people can use, depend on, and truly value in their daily lives,” added Hashimoto.
Toyota Motor Philippines will officially unveil the Tamaraw Modern PUV Class 1 to the public at the Philippine International Truck Show, which will be held at Hall 1 of the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from October 22-24, 2026.
