Porsche’s gas-fed Project Octan spied testing again at Nürburgring
Porsche Project Octan test mule gains production hardware ahead of winter testing
Porsche’s ambitious Project Octan is continuing to take shape, with development drivers spotted pushing another engineering test mule through dynamic testing around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Widely reported as Stuttgart’s initiative to keep a high-performance combustion and hybrid crossover option alongside its all-electric Macan line, Project Octan relies heavily on modified donor bodywork during these early stages. The latest test mule continues to wear an Audi Q5 body shell, but closer inspection reveals several key evolutionary updates.

At the front, the lighting setup has been visibly altered. The headlights now sit higher up on the front fascia, though engineers are still utilizing temporary units borrowed from the Audi parts bin. At the rear, the test vehicle appears to be running a bespoke Porsche exhaust layout integrated into the bumper, giving a clear indication of its internal combustion focus.

Crucially, spy photographers managed to glance inside the cabin, confirming that Porsche has officially begun fitting out the prototype's interior with brand-specific controls, digital displays, and center console hardware.

The steady progression from crude mechanical test rig to a more refined engineering mule suggests development is moving along rapidly. With chassis setup and powertrain calibration progressing at the Green Hell, official production-bodied prototypes for Project Octan are expected to make their public debut in cold-weather testing during the upcoming winter months.
