It’s already been several years since the GWM Tank 300 made its Philippine debut in late 2023. While it impressed us with its performance on-road and off-road, it’s due for an update and could use an electrified or turbo-diesel engine under the hood besides the standard 2.0L gas turbo.

Over in China, however, GWM may already be preparing to launch the refreshed Tank 300 soon. The PRC’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently released the first pictures and specifications of the updated Tank 300, and it has some noticeable changes here and there.

While the Tank 300 still comes with the signature boxy styling, the exterior has received some key updates. For starters, the front grille now comes with the “TANK” brand spelled out instead of the standard logo. The grille itself was also changed and now features a honeycomb design instead of the horizontal bars from before.

Also getting an update are the front & rear bumpers, with the former featuring a more rugged design and new LED foglight. The latter, meanwhile, looks chunkier and features new reflectors and what appear to be mounts to put new gear in. Also worth mentioning are the side vents near the front doors, which are not present in the current model. This results in easier installation of aftermarket equipment like a snorkel without having to cut into the bodywork.

Other key changes on the Tank 300 include new alloy wheel designs, a new spare tire carrier, a new tow hitch cover in the back, and what appear to be a new set of LED taillights.

Last but not least, the updated Tank 300 appears to have undergone a growth spurt, as it now measures 4886mm long, 1984mm wide, and 1927mm tall. In comparison, the current Tank 300 comes in at 4760mm long, 1930mm wide, and 1903mm tall.

Under the hood, the Tank 300 will likely still be available with the 2.0L turbo-gas engine that makes 220 PS, the 2.4L turbo-diesel engine, which makes 184 PS, and the 2.0L turbo HEV, which generates over 340 PS.

Hopefully, GWM Philippines decides to bring the turbo-diesel and HEV models, as demand for electrified vehicles continues to grow in the country. In fact, Dax Avenido, Brand Head of GWM Philippines, mentioned to us back in 2025 that both the Tank 300 HEV and Diesel versions have a big chance to come to PH.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that GWM still has both vehicles in the pipeline, together with the refreshed Tank 300 and perhaps the Hi4-T or Hi4-Z PHEV variants.
