When GWM revealed the 2026 Tank 300 PHEV earlier this month, we were surprised by the level of technology and features it has. Not only does it come with a powerful plug-in hybrid system that can deliver up to 761 PS and more than 1,190 Nm of torque, but the Tank 300 PHEV is also chock-full with lots of amenities one would normally find in more premium vehicles.

All well and good, but for 4x4 enthusiasts, nothing beats a good ol' internal combustion engine. Well, despite launching the flagship PHEV model first, GWM recently announced that the 2026 Tank 300 continues to be available with a hybrid electric powertrain, as well as a turbo-diesel under the hood.

Starting with the 2.0L turbo-gas version, it continues to make 162 kW or 220 PS at 5500 rpm, along with 380 Nm of torque at 1800 to 3600 rpm. Power is then sent to a 9-speed automatic transmission, complete with a part-time 4WD system (2H, 4H, and 4L). For extra get-up and go while going off-road, it has several drive modes available, including Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

Those who still prefer turbo-diesel power can also get the Tank 300 with a 2.4L engine that makes 135 kW or 184 PS at 3600 rpm and 480 Nm of torque between 1500 and 2500 rpm. Like the gas version, the turbo-diesel variant also comes with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and the aforementioned 4WD system with selectable drive modes.

As before, the Tank 300 sits on a body-on-frame platform and is accompanied by double wishbones in the front and a multi-link non-independent suspension in the back. A rear locking differential comes as standard, but for those who want the utmost grip and traction over any terrain, higher-grade models also come with a front locking differential when the going gets tough.

For now, GWM Philippines has the Cannon, the H9, and the recently launched H7 HEV/PHEV as its offerings in the country. Meanwhile, the Tank 300 was quietly discontinued for the Philippine market. But with GWM recently launching a new version in China that is available in PHEV, turbo-gas, and turbo-diesel variants, we wonder if GWM Philippines has any plans to bring the new one here in the future.
