Second-generation BYD Seagull is also called the Great Seagull
Remember when we first saw what looked to be the all-new BYD Seagull? Well, a Chinese publication has made it official that BYD's smallest EV will indeed get an all-new generation.
According to the initial specifications and pictures released by Autohome, the all-new BYD Seagull (AKA Great Seagull) will indeed be bigger than its predecessor, which we currently have. Starting with its size, the latest EV hatchback measures 4205mm long, 1810mm wide, and 1570mm tall on a 2650mm wheelbase.

This makes the all-new Seagull longer by 425mm, 95mm wider, 30mm taller, as well as having 150mm of extra wheelbase. Thanks to the growth spurt, the BYD Seagull is now a proper five-seater instead of a four-seater EV in its current generation and is now as big as its closest sibling, the BYD Dolphin.
Just like the pictures revealed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) earlier this year, the Great Seagull features a more stylish design. It gets a sleeker set of LED headlights, a more aerodynamic front fascia, larger doors, bigger alloy wheels, and a more dynamic rear end with new LED taillights and a tailgate spoiler.

Also worth mentioning is the all-new Seagull's redesigned drive layout. According to Autohome, the Great Seagull moves to a RWD layout, as it now has a rear electric motor driving the rear wheels. This means BYD was able to give the all-new Seagull a frunk for more luggage space. In addition, the rear torsion beam suspension has reportedly been replaced with a new independent suspension for better handling.
No battery capacities have been mentioned just yet. However, the all-new Seagull now apparently comes with a more powerful electric motor that puts out 95 kW (or 129 PS). In addition, it now has 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/60 series tires, which are bigger and wider than what the current model gets (165mm or 175mm width tires).

Open the doors, and the all-new Seagull comes with a larger touchscreen infotainment display, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a redesigned center console. While BYD has yet to release any specifics, it looks like the Great Seagull will get a wireless charging pad, as well as physical controls for the infotainment and climate control systems. The larger dimensions have also translated into a roomier cabin.

With the first pictures and specifications already out, it might not be long before it's officially launched in China. The only question now is: when will BYD Cars Philippines bring it here?
