GWM Cannon Hi4-T PHEV officially revealed; will PH get it?
GWM reveals the Cannon P300 Hi4-T plug-in hybrid pickup truck
GWM Philippines officially rejoined the electrified crossover SUV market when it launched the Haval H7 earlier this week. Available either as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) or as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), the Haval H7 is set to give the likes of the BYD Sealion 6 and Jetour T1 Lightning something to think about.
However, one segment they have yet to tap into is the plug-in hybrid pickup truck market. Yes, they have the turbo-diesel Cannon pickups, but with diesel prices still relatively high, they need an electrified workhorse that can go the distance, tow or haul with ease, while still having the ability to be a relatively comfy truck.

Enter the GWM P300 Hi4-T, and it's basically the plug-in hybrid version of the Cannon we get here in the Philippines. While it may look the same as the regular turbo-diesel Cannon, this particular variant has an electrified powertrain.
At the heart of the electrified Cannon is a plug-in hybrid system that was derived from the Tank 300 PHEV. Based on information released by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Cannon PHEV has a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four that makes 245 PS with 380 Nm of torque and is assisted by an electric motor that puts out 177 PS with 495 Nm of torque.
Combined with a 33.1 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the Cannon PHEV delivers a total system output of 421 PS and 750 Nm of torque. On battery power alone, GWM claims the Cannon PHEV can do up to 118 km, based on the NEDC cycle, while the combined system range is rated at 1,017 km.

Despite benefiting from electrification, 4x4 enthusiasts need not be disappointed, as the Cannon PHEV still has a part-time 4WD system with a low-range box, three locking differentials (front, rear, and center), a braked towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons, and a payload capacity of up to 1,000 kg. Power is then sent to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
To ensure it can power up devices while in the wilderness, the GWM P300 Hi4-T has a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that's rated to support up to 6 kW. Meanwhile, creature comforts such as a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, full leather upholstery, a wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, and a fully digital instrument panel come as standard in the plug-in hybrid pickup.

With China getting first dibs on the GWM Cannon P300 Hi4-T PHEV, we're hoping GWM Philippines has plans to bring the electrified pickup truck here in the future. Heck, it might give the likes of the BYD Shark 6 and the Changan Hunter a run for their money.
