GAC Philippines has been busy of late expanding its lineup of electric vehicles (EVs). From the Aion V crossover and the recently launched AION UT hatchback, GAC is busy bringing electrified vehicles beyond the GS8 HEV and the GN8 PHEV.

However, we could see another EV from GAC making its official debut in the country soon. Just recently, the Department of Energy (DOE) updated its list of recognized EVs and added the GAC AION Y. It's the smaller sibling to the GAC AION V but also offers stylish looks, a high-tech yet practical cabin, and zero-emissions mobility.

Based on the DOE's listing, the GAC AION Y for the Philippine market will measure 4535mm long, 1870mm wide, and 1650mm tall on a 2750mm wheelbase. It also offers 405 liters of cargo space with the rear seats deployed. Just like the AION V, the AION Y can seat up to five people, including the driver.

Similar to the AION V, the AION Y comes with GAC's Magazine Battery 2.0. Based on the initial specifications, the vehicle comes with a 63.2 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which gives the AION Y a range of up to 490 km. However, the DOE's listing mentions that the AION Y has a smaller 55.2 kWh battery. Perhaps GAC is still finalizing the specifications for the Philippine market and has yet to decide between the two battery packs.

Also worth mentioning is its electric motor. While the DOE stated the AION Y makes 100 kW or 136 PS, GAC's initial specifications mention that the EV actually puts out 150 kW or 204 PS with 225 Nm of torque. When it comes to recharging the battery, it supports 7 kW AC charging and 80 kW DC fast charging.

Once revealed for the Philippine market, the GAC AION Y could be available in two distinct variants: Elite and Premium. The former will have 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 series tires, while the latter will be fitted with 18-inch alloys and 215/50 series tires. However, the Premium variant will be the only one to have a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

As far as features are concerned, the GAC AION Y for the Philippines may be available with leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a power-adjustable driver's seat, automatic climate control, a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment, front & rear USB charging ports, a 360-degree around-view monitor, a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, and 32-color ambient lighting.

With the GAC AION Y already receiving recognition, perhaps we can expect the automaker to hold an official launch later this year.
