Carroll brings renewable energy expertise as Drake concludes a 32-year career with Ford
Ford Motor Company has appointed Dave Carroll as president of Ford Energy, effective August 31. He succeeds Lisa Drake, who will retire at year-end after 32 years with the automaker.
Carroll joins Ford from ENGIE North America, where he served as CEO and chief renewables officer. During his tenure, he helped grow the company’s renewable energy operating assets more than 12-fold. He previously held leadership roles at EDF Renewables and Avangrid Renewables and recently chaired the American Clean Power Association board.

Ford launched Ford Energy last December as part of its nearly $20-billion business overhaul, marking its entry into the battery energy storage business.
The venture will produce large-scale battery systems, some as big as shipping containers, that utilities and data centers can use to store electricity, stabilize the grid, and provide backup power.
As president, Carroll will oversee Ford Energy’s battery cell manufacturing, system assembly, commercial strategy, and sales as the business scales its energy storage operations. He will report to Ford Vice Chair John Lawler.
“There’s no bigger opportunity in this market than building a category-defining energy business for one of America’s most iconic and important companies.”

Lisa Drake joined Ford in 1994 as a powertrain engineer and spent three decades in key leadership roles spanning vehicle development, purchasing, operations, and electrification. She played a major role in Ford’s battery manufacturing and EV strategy before becoming the inaugural president of Ford Energy in January 2026, helping build the business from the ground up and launch commercial operations in less than a year.
“Lisa exemplified the very best of our leadership,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. “She always ran toward the hardest problems, from trucks to hybrids to EVs to establishing Ford Energy as a dynamic new business.”
Drake will remain with Ford through December 31 to support the transition, including manufacturing operations, customer commitments, and supplier partnerships.
