Earlier this year, GWM launched the Ora 5, which is the brand's latest crossover and serves as the taller sibling of the Ora 03 (AKA Good Cat). But unlike the electric hatchback, the Ora 5 is available as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and as a pure electric vehicle (EV).

Heck, Thailand got first dibs on the HEV version of the Ora 5 since GWM only revealed it for the Chinese market at the 2026 Auto China in Beijing last week. However, GWM is also offering an internal combustion (ICE) model of the Ora 5.

Yes, you read that right, GWM quietly revealed a turbocharged version of the Ora 5 at this year's Auto China, and it's quite the crossover. It gets the same 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder as the hybrid, but benefits from a variable geometry turbo (VGT).

The result is an output of 184 PS, which is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Torque figures were not revealed, although we won't be surprised if it makes at least 250 Nm or more. Last but not least, GWM says the turbocharged Ora 5 can go from 0 – 100 km/h in a respectable 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 190 km/h.

Side-by-side with the HEV and EV variants, the turbocharged Ora 5 has a modest power output despite being ICE. The HEV version combines a 1.5L turbo, an electric motor, and a small battery pack, which gives a total system output of 223 PS with 476 Nm of torque and up to 1,000 km of range. It can also sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and can average up to 4.3L per 100 km.

As for the Ora 5 EV, it has a single electric motor producing 204 PS and is available with two battery packs: 63.87 kWh and 83.49 kWh. This gives the electric crossover a range of 555 to 705 km, based on the CLTC cycle.

With GWM Philippines already previewing the Ora 5 at the recently concluded 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), we're curious if the automaker has plans to bring the HEV and the 1.5L turbo ICE variants in the future.
