BAIC just made its presence felt at the 2026 Auto China (AKA the 2026 Beijing Auto Show) with a lineup of brand-new and next-generation vehicles. With competition among other brands becoming fiercer and with demand for electrified vehicles continuing to reach new heights, BAIC is shifting from its current “car manufacturing based on advice” to a new user-centric approach called “Build In Public”.

For BAIC, this is crucial to learn what buyers and users truly want from their 4x4s and electrified vehicles. When buyers clamored for more fuel-efficient SUVs without sacrificing 4WD capability, they gave them the B40e and B60e rEVs. In addition, they also put intelligent driver aids for extra peace of mind when going off-road or driving on-road.

BAIC decided to push the BIP vehicle manufacturing model even further with the reveal of some of its latest generation 4x4s. Making their debut in Beijing are the B81 and the B70.

Starting with the B81, it’s billed as a “tactical box car” and remains based on the brand’s long-standing military-vehicle genes and hardcore off-road heritage. Just like the B80, the B81 will be offered as a high-end SUV that is heavily inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. But unlike the B80, the B81 will be available with electrified powertrains.

Design-wise, it still gets its looks from the G-Class, albeit toned down and featuring some subtle differences compared to the SUV from the three-pointed star. It comes with six-spoke alloy wheels, a five-slot grille, a hood scoop, and different side window designs. The boxy shape is still a sight to see and draws heavily from old-school SUVs of yesteryear.

Official powertrain details have yet to be revealed. But the automaker did mention that it will have dual electric motors, along with three locking differentials (front, center, and rear). Moreover, the B81 will be an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), which means it will likely have a turbocharged engine that will serve to recharge its high-capacity battery.

Up next is the B70 (AKA City Hunter), which appears to be the new top-of-the-line SUV model in the brand's portfolio of vehicles. Instead of being inspired by the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco, the B70 borrows styling cues from a certain SUV that hails from the UK. With its Defender-like exterior, boxy shape, and imposing looks, the B70 looks lean and mean.

Described as a “high-profile SUV”, the B70 seeks to get a slice of the larger high-end SUV market not just in size, but also in design, features, creature comforts, off-road ability, and users’ real needs. With BAIC planning to offer this as one of their premier high-end models, we can expect it to also have plenty of in-car amenities to please those who want to take it off-road or on-road leisurely.

Despite its Defender-like aesthetics, the BAIC B70 still comes with some of its own design cues like a waterfall-style grille, square-like headlight recesses, and pronounced curves & lines throughout its exterior.

Like the B81, the B70 will get an electrified powertrain and is expected to produce up to 500 PS. It will also have off-road and water-wading abilities, including tank turns, advanced water wading modes, and full-time AWD, complete with all-wheel steering for improved maneuverability. It shares its platform with the B81 but has a longer wheelbase and will have a six-seat layout for better comfort.

The B81 will officially be launched on August 1, 2026, while the B70 is planned to be launched in the first half of 2027.

With that, perhaps we can expect BAIC Philippines distributor United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI) to bring the B81 and the B70 as its high-end models to go up against the likes of the Denza B5 & B8.
