Alfa Romeo is now 110 years old, and still going strong
Take a look back at 110 years of Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo has hit a milestone only a few can match.

On June 24, the Italian automaker marked its 110th anniversary, and they are inviting everyone to join the celebrations online from the recently re-opened Alfa Romeo Museum. Fans of the brand all over the world can view new sections of the museum and enjoy exclusive videos to commemorate the event.

Founded in 1910, Alfa Romeo has a very colorful history building some of the beautiful automobiles ever such as the Giulia, Spider, GTA, and more recently the 4C. However, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the Italian automaker. Sometime in the 80s, Alfa Romeo was put up for sale and was bought by Fiat hence why they are now under the Fiat-Chrysler-Automobiles (FCA) umbrella.

Aside from building great cars, the Italian marque is deeply rooted in motorsports having competed in Formula 1 (with Ferrari and other teams), IndyCar, Rally, and more popularly in Touring Car Championships. Undoubtedly, one of the Alfa Romeo’s most popular iconic racers includes the 155 and 156 DTM racers, which dominated various series during its time. To this day, Alfa Romeo continues to compete in Formula 1 with drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi.

While most people associate Alfa Romeo with its famous cars, the brand did venture beyond automobiles back in the day. Some of these products included aircraft engines with their Alfa Avio division and marine/boat engines. They also built trucks and light commercial vehicles up until the 1970s.

If you want to learn more about the history of the brand, you can head over to the recently re-opened Alfa Romeo museum. The automaker is offering a special tour to commemorate their 110th anniversary showcasing nearly all their cars, artwork, and various engines developed over the years. Limited edition merchandise including an Eberhard & Co. watch are available to purchase as well.
For those that can’t visit in person, there is also a virtual tour available which includes a timeline video of the brand’s history. The virtual tour also features an exclusive preview of the museum’s storage area featuring never before seen collections. It also has Alfa Romeo models used by the carabinieri, the national police force of Italy.

Today, Alfa Romeo is still going strong and continues to offer a wide lineup of models comprised of a hatchback, sports car, sedan, and SUV. Their latest model, however, is the Giulia GTA and GTAm, a sports sedan built to go fast around the track.
With more than a century of being in the business, Alfa Romeo is no stranger to the changing times, as well as experiencing hardships. But despite the setbacks and difficulties, Alfa Romeo is still here and it looks like they will still be making cars in the next hundred years or so. Cheers to you Alfa Romeo.
