2026 BYD Sealion 05 PHEV revealed with up to 305 km of electric range
The BYD Sealion 05 is essentially the refreshed (and upgraded) version of the Sealion 5

Remember when we reported that BYD planned to launch a Sealion 5 DM-i PHEV with up to 200 km of EV range? Well, BYD outdid itself after they were able to launch an upgraded version of the plug-in hybrid with more than enough EV range to cover long distances.
Say hello to the 2026 BYD Sealion 05 DM-i (AKA the Song Pro DM-i), which gets an upgraded electric hardware, along with some exterior changes. Starting with the latter, the Sealion 05 DM-i gets a sleeker look, which appears to have been inspired by the Seal 05's looks.
It gets tapered LED headlights, along with a more curvaceous front fascia that's accompanied by an aerodynamic front bumper. Also present are the Atto 3-like taillights, which cover almost the entire width of the vehicle, a new tailgate, and a smoother rear bumper. Last but not least are new alloy wheel designs, which give the electrified crossover a more high-tech look.

Under the hood, the 1.5L four-cylinder engine has been carried over and continues to make 100 PS. The engine then assists an electric motor that produces 120 kW (163 PS). Compared to the Sealion 5's 197 PS electric motor, the Sealion 05's electric motor puts out 34 PS less.
Serving as the biggest upgrade of the Sealion 05 DM-i is its battery pack. Unlike the Sealion 5 DM-i, which only has a 12.96 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the Sealion 05 DM-i is available with two new (larger) battery packs: 26.62 kWh and 34.27 kWh. According to BYD, this gives the Sealion 05 DM-i an electric range of 220-305 km based on the CLTC cycle.
For a direct comparison, the Sealion 5 DM-i's 12.96 kWh battery only gives it an EV range of up to 71 km, based on the NEDC standard.
With the Sealion 05 DM-i already available in China, we're curious if BYD Cars Philippines plans to bring this here in the future. With its larger battery pack, the Sealion 05 can cover longer distances without having to use a drop of fuel.
