Behold, the return of the Grand Vitara.
Maruti Suzuki has officially brought back the Grand Vitara nameplate, offering hybrid powertrains and premium features in what the manufacturer calls their “new breed of SUV”.

The all-new Grand Vitara is a result of Suzuki's partnership with Toyota, meaning it shares a lot in common with the recently launched Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Size-wise, the Grand Vitara measures 4345mm long, 1795mm wide, and 1645mm tall, making it 350mm longer than the Brezza.
From the looks department, the all-new Grand Vitara wears its own identity over the Hyryder. It proudly has the Suzuki S badge in front with the hexagonal grille surrounded by chrome trim. Also, it incorporates a split-headlight design where the LED daytime running lights are on top while the headlights are mounted at the front bumper.

The side profile looks identical to the Hyryder with the exception of the Grand Vitara's unique 17-inch wheel design. But at the back, the Suzuki has its own wraparound LED taillights with the “GRAND VITARA” emblem under it.

The all-new Grand Vitara shares the Hyryder's interior, albeit the Suzuki sports a dual-tone black and Bordeaux interior with silver accents on the dashboard and door panels for lower-spec models, and an all-black interior with champagne gold accents for the top-spec trims. It also has ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and a panoramic roof for top-of-the-line models like the Hyryder.
For smartphone connectivity, the Grand Vitara has Apple Carplay and Android Auto on its 9-inch infotainment system. That goes along with the Suzuki Connect app with smartwatch compatibilities and remote features to adjust the crossover's climate control settings and monitor vehicle status, among others.

Like the Hyryder, the all-new Grand Vitara is available with two 1.5-liter, four-cylinder hybrid powertrain options – a smart mild-hybrid and an intelligent electric hybrid. The former produces 103 PS at 6000 rpm and 137 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm, while the latter has a combined output rated at 115 PS and 141 Nm of torque.
In addition, the Grand Vitara has Suzuki's AllGrip Select four-wheel-drive system for select models that lets the driver choose from 4 driving modes (Auto, Sport, Snow, Lock) depending on road surfaces or conditions.

When it comes to its safety features, the all-new Grand Vitara can have up to six airbags, while assists like ABS with EBD, VSC, and Hill Hold Control are standard for all variants. On the other hand, Hill Descent Control is only available in the four-wheel-drive variant.
The all-new Grand Vitara will be manufactured together with the Hyryder in Toyota's Bidadi, Karnataka production facility. Maruti Suzuki will announce its pricing in the coming weeks, once Toyota has made its own with the Hyryder.
As for the local market, the Suzuki Grand Vitara fits right into Suzuki Philippines' lineup considering they've already axed the Hungarian-made Vitara. Given that they also source-out models like the all-new Celerio, Dzire, S-Presso, and Jimny from India, we won't be surprised if the Grand Vitara would make its grand return to the country sometime within the next few months, or early next year.
