Isuzu Erga EV concept is a flat-floor bus with 960 Nm of torque

Isuzu is out to prove that it can make the shift towards zero emissions mobility while also setting a goal of achieving carbon neutrality in the coming years. Aside from showing the Giga Fuel Cell heavy-duty EV truck at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, Isuzu Motors Limited (IML) has also displayed the all-electric Erga Bus EV concept.

Billed by the company as its first BEV flat-floor route bus developed to realize zero carbon emissions, it makes use of a fully electric powertrain while also allowing passengers to ingress or egress more safely.

Thanks to its flat-floor design, Isuzu claims all of the seats are accessible without steps, making movement within the bus completely barrier-free. In addition, the electric powertrain ensures smoother acceleration & deceleration, and lower vibration & noise levels to maximize passenger comfort. Speaking of passengers, the Erga EV concept can accommodate a total of 80 passengers - 21 seated, 58 standing, and the bus driver.

At the heart of the Erga EV bus concept are a pair of electric motors powered by a 220 kW lithium-ion battery pack. Each electric motor produces 125 kW (or 170 PS) along with 480 Nm of torque - resulting in a total system output of 340 PS and a healthy 960 Nm of torque.

The Erga EV’s estimated range is not yet available as Isuzu is still conducting real-world tests. However, they did say that the prototype version has a rapid charging system courtesy via CHAdeMO.

The Erga EV bus concept itself may still be in the prototype stages, but Isuzu is looking to have a production version out by next year. It will initially be available in Japan but it could make its way outside of its home market as more and more countries adopt all-electric buses. Perhaps we might get to see the Erga EV bus plying routes in Bonifacio Global City in the not-so-distant future.
