Xpander, expanded: 2019 Mitsubishi Delica D:5 breaks cover
Mitsubishi pulls the covers off of 2019 Mitsubishi Delica D:5
So far, 2018 is proving to be a good year for Mitsubishi. The Xpander has been making waves across the ASEAN market, the Eclipse Cross recently won the Japan Car of the Year award, the Montero Sport/Pajero Sport has consistently been a good seller, and they just pulled the wraps off the heavily updated Strada/Triton.

Just weeks after the Strada/Triton made its global debut, Mitsubishi is at it again with the launch of yet another new model. As the year nears its end, the Japanese automaker has unveiled the new Delica D:5. The new design takes cues from the Xpander, Montero Sport, as well as the Strada.
The Xpander cues are seen at the front with its headlight arrangement. Like the small MPV, the 2019 Delica D:5 sees its headlights being moved to the middle of the bumper while the LED daytime running lights have been moved up. Taking center stage at the front is a wider grill which draws inspiration from the Montero Sport and Strada, giving it a bolder look.

Changes are less pronounced on the sides as the upright flanks appear to have been carried over from the soon to be outgoing model. The rear is also largely unchanged from the previous model, save for a new bumper and new tail lights which now have the distinct 'tear drop' LED pattern.
The 2019 Delica also comes in two style lines: Standard (pictured in main) and the upmarket Urban Gear (pictured above). The Standard adapts a rugged look with its seven-spoke wheels, high ground clearance, faux skid plates front and rear, and a unique grill pattern. The Urban Gear on the other hand gets more chrome, a slatted grill, multi-spoke alloys, and a body kit.

Inside, the dash incorporates a sweeping design at the top, and a flat fascia. The center stack then cascades downwards, integrating the infotainment touchscreen, air-conditioning controls, and the gear selector. Also redesigned is the instrument cluster, which draws inspiration the Montero Sport and new Strada. Leather door inserts add a touch of luxury in the van as well, and there's armchair style seating at the front.

Like the exterior, the interior is different depending if one chooses the Standard or Urban Gear model. The Standard model seats seven people with the second row having a 60:40 split that can be slid forwards and back. Urban Gear models on the other hand get an all-black interior and boast captain seats instead of a bench in the second row. That makes the Urban Gear variant a six-seater.

Under the hood of the 2019 Delica D:5 is a 2.2-liter MIVEC turbodiesel. Exact figures weren't mentioned but it seems to be the 4N14 engine. That engine makes 177 PS and 380 Nm of torque. It then shifts via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Front-wheel drive is the standard drivetrain but four-wheel drive is an available option. Making this MPV unique is the fact that it has a locking differential, meaning the Delica can go for a bit of off-roading as well.
