Upgraded 2027 Mitsubishi Triton gets LTO approval

Believe it or not, the all-new Mitsubishi Triton has been in the Philippine market for more than a couple of years now. First revealed back in January 2024, the latest pickup truck from Mitsubishi drops the Strada name in favor of the global Triton nomenclature. Not only that, but the sixth-generation pickup gets a growth spurt, new amenities, and a new bi-turbo 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine for the top-of-the-line Athlete variant.

In the future, we may say hello to an improved version of Mitsubishi’s popular pickup truck. This comes after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently released homologation documents for the 2027 Mitsubishi Triton.

Based on newly released memorandum circulars, the upcoming Mitsubishi Triton update will be available in GX, GL, GLX, GLS, and Athlete variants, just like the current model range. All of the variants will also be powered by the brand’s 2442cc (AKA 2.4L) turbo-diesel engine, which is available in two states of tune: 183 PS with 430 Nm of torque and 204 PS with 470 Nm of torque. Last but not least, transmission options will include a 6-speed automatic and a shift-by-wire 6-speed manual.

Perhaps the most telling sign that the pickup truck will receive an update is its new model year. That’s right, the updated Mitsubishi Triton has been listed as a 2027 model year. But what changes can we expect from the 2027 Triton?

Back in 2026, Mitsubishi refreshed the Triton for the 2026 model year in Japan with some key upgrades. While the exterior remains relatively the same, Mitsubishi was busier giving the pickup better road manners and additional amenities. 

For starters, Mitsubishi installed Yamaha performance dampers to the front and rear of the Triton’s frame. Not to be mistaken for shock absorbers, the new Yamaha dampers are found between the joints of the body shell and its ladder frame. This makes for better chassis distortion absorption, as well as reducing noise and vibrations while driving. The front & rear shock absorbers have also been improved to deliver better riding comfort and handling.

Other key updates include a new tailgate assist to make opening & closing the tailgate easier and the removal of the styling bar at the rear to allow owners greater freedom of customization.

With the 2027 Mitsubishi Triton already cleared by the LTO, perhaps it might not be long before the brand launches it. Heck, we might see it make its debut at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) this coming June.
