TMA empowers local transport cooperatives on road safety
TMA joins hands with DOTr, LTFRB, and GIZ to drive nationwide transport safety initiatives
Road safety in the commercial vehicle industry relies on an ecosystem where mechanical reliability, driver education, and public-private cooperation align perfectly. Recognizing this collective necessity, the Truck Manufacturers Association, Inc. (TMA) stepped up its advocacy by actively supporting the Department of Transportation’s National Road Safety Campaign.
Through a dual-pronged approach launched during National Road Safety Month, the premier industry association focused its energy on tangible grassroots training before reinforcing its long-term corporate commitments at the culminating National Road Safety Summit.

The practical phase of the campaign kicked off in Antipolo, Rizal, where TMA united with the Department of Transportation, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Together, the project partners conducted the National Road Safety Training for the drivers, operators, and mechanics of the Lungsod Silangan Transport Service & Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
This collaborative workshop shifted the focus away from abstract policies, treating transport workers to highly practical modules detailing Modern PUV standards, advanced vehicle safety operations, preventive maintenance routines, basic troubleshooting methods, and fuel-saving eco-driving techniques designed for immediate application on local roads.

The initiative targeted three foundational pillars tied to the broader Philippine Road Safety Action Plan framework, prioritizing direct capacity-building, vehicle validation awareness, and proactive public information. Highlighting the core philosophy behind the training, TMA president Robert Carlos noted that creating safer roads requires active participation from all sectors. This proactive stance earned praise from LTFRB Executive Director Atty. Sherwin Vizconde, who commended the association for taking the lead in bringing essential safety education straight to public utility operators.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Every driver, operator, manufacturer, and stakeholder have a role in creating safer roads and more reliable transport services. Through initiatives like this, we hope to empower transport communities with practical knowledge that can help improve both vehicle readiness and driving discipline in everyday operations,” said Carlos.

Following the successful provincial training leg, TMA shifted its presence to the National Road Safety Summit held in Pasig City to cap off the monthly campaign. The massive gathering served as a premier collaborative stage for various government agencies, automotive associations, transport groups, and private sector advocates aiming to establish safer, highly sustainable mobility solutions across the archipelago.
Beyond participating in the macro-level policy discussions, the association engaged summit visitors through an interactive exhibition booth that demystified the role of heavy machinery manufacturers in day-to-day transport safety, showing that total operational accountability extends far beyond factory technology and into the shared practices of daily fleet maintenance.
