BYD Cars PH launches service campaign on select Shark 6 DMO models due to spare wheel issue
Remember when BYD had to recall several Shark 6 DMO units due to an issue that could cause the spare wheel to fall off the pickup truck? Well, BYD Cars Philippines distributor ACMobility has announced a service campaign for affected Shark 6 DMO units.
Under the BYD Shark 6 Service Campaign, the brand will upgrade the Spare Tire Lifter Assembly for affected customers. As a precautionary measure, the automaker has recommended the following for existing customers of the BYD Shark 6 DMO.
1. If you have previously removed and reattached your spare tire, we recommend removing the spare tire from its hub. Instructions for removing the spare tire can be found in the Shark 6 DMO Owner’s Manual.
2. If you have never removed your spare tire, no action is needed at this time.
For affected owners, BYD tells customers to expect a BYD dealer representative to contact them once the updated part becomes available. The BYD dealer will then replace the Spare Tire Lifter Assembly with an updated design, free of charge.

So far, countries that have issued recalls regarding the BYD Shark 6’s faulty spare tire assembly include Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. According to BYD Australia, the defect is caused by potential wear of the spare wheel support cable. Incorrect installation of the spare wheel, incorrect positioning of the spare wheel tray, or insufficient torque fastening may cause abnormal wear. Continued friction or movement during normal operation of the vehicle may cause the spare wheel to fall off the assembly, potentially causing an accident.
For customers who need assistance or who have additional inquiries, they can contact their preferred authorized BYD dealership or via BYD Customer Care at (02) 7758-1888, which is available from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. They can also send an email to customer.care@bydcarsphilippines.com for after-hours inquiries.
