Motorists planning to travel through Manila on June 12 should expect traffic disruptions as the Manila Police District (MPD) announced a series of road closures and traffic rerouting measures for the country's 128th Independence Day celebrations.

The affected roads are located primarily around Rizal Park and nearby areas where official activities and ceremonies will take place.

According to the MPD, the roads that will be closed include Katigbak Drive, Independence Road, and South Road. Also affected are both directions of Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to P. Burgos Avenue; both directions of Roxas Boulevard from P. Burgos Avenue to Quirino Avenue; Roxas Boulevard Service Road from Kalaw Avenue to United Nations Avenue; portions of T.M. Kalaw Avenue; the westbound lane of P. Burgos Avenue; the westbound lane of Finance Road; and the southbound section of Maria Orosa Street between P. Burgos Avenue and T.M. Kalaw Avenue.

To help ease congestion, authorities have laid out several alternative routes. Vehicles coming from Jones, MacArthur, and Quezon bridges are advised to use Taft Avenue. Motorists travelling along Roxas Boulevard Service Road may turn right to United Nations Avenue, while those coming from A. Mabini Street may use T.M. Kalaw Avenue.

Meanwhile, trucks and heavy vehicles bound for the Port Area will be diverted through the old truck route via Quirino Avenue and Mabini Bridge. Southbound trucks from Mel Lopez Boulevard heading toward Roxas Boulevard will also be redirected through Capulong Street, Yuseco Street, and Lacson Avenue.

The MPD reminded motorists that road closures and traffic rerouting may be adjusted based on the actual traffic situation on the ground. Drivers are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and allow extra travel time to avoid delays during the Independence Day celebrations.
