LTO to have one-strike revocation policy for pedestrian lane-related incidents
LTO drafting memorandum order to revoke driver's license involved in pedestrian lane-related incidents
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is stepping up its drive to instill discipline in motorists. This comes after the agency announced its drafting a memorandum order on revoking a driver's license for those who are proven to be involved in pedestrian lane-related incidents.
LTO Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao confirmed this with AutoIndustriya.com. Lacanilao added that they are looking to impose a one-strike policy if the incident involves a driver ignoring the pedestrian crossing and hits someone. Should this happen, the LTO Asec. mentioned that revocation will be sought.
“Dami namamatay [habang] tumatawid ng maayos sa pedestrian [lane]. Personal ako nakakita bata grabe binusinahan tumatawid ng tama yung bata,” said Lacanilao.
(Many people die [while] crossing the pedestrian [lane] properly. I personally saw a child being honked at, and the child was crossing correctly)
The memorandum order is still being drafted by the LTO, which means it might take some time before the agency releases it. However, the one-strike policy against motorists involved in pedestrian-related incidents is part of the LTO's drive to instill driver discipline and establish more accountability for driver misdeeds.
We'll have more information about the LTO's upcoming memorandum order once the agency finalizes it.
