Brand transformations are a common occurrence in the automotive world. For some, the turnaround worked out for the better in elevating a brand to a new level.

For Jaguar, however, it left behind its 90-year legacy for a radical rethink, which obviously did not sit well for long-time fans of the brand. Now, their first production model for this ambitious gamble has been revealed – enter the Type 01 BEV.

The all-electric Type 01 is an imposing four-door GT that embodies the Jaguar’s new “Exuberant Modernism” design language, as it begins its new identity as a luxury electric brand. Jaguar claims the name references both Jaguar's iconic lineage and its all‑electric future: "Type" nods to iconic predecessors, "0" signifies zero tailpipe emissions and "1" marks the first of a new generation.

As seen from the camouflaged prototypes, the Type 01 did not stray far from the Type 00 Concept that was revealed two years ago. It features a low roofline, short front overhang, a long bonnet reminiscent of the E-Type from yesteryears, extended rear overhang, and massive 23‑inch wheels.

Inside, the Type 01 has a unique central spine that runs the length of the cabin to create individual spaces for each occupant, with brass-inspired elements that define the cabin’s longitudinal nature. A 24-inch single glass OLED screen serves as the Interactive Driver Display, while a smartphone-style 7-inch display houses the most common cabin controls like media and HVAC.

Much like the Type 00 Concept, the Type 01 does not have a rear glass window, and thus a traditional rearview mirror would be deemed useless. Instead, Jaguar fitted a rear view display, which is positioned at the same height as the exterior mirrors in the panoramic soundbar at the base of the windshield.

Jaguar says the Type 01 is the most technologically advanced and powerful Jaguar in the brand’s history. Speaking of which, the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform in the Type 01 features three electric motors – one in front, and two at the rear, generating up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque.

Despite its massive size, Jaguar claims the Type 01 pulls from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The Intelligent Torque Vectoring puts the power precisely where it’s needed, using the technology and know-how from Jaguar’s Formula E program.

Other details for its electric architecture include an 850-volt system, and a 118 kWh usable battery capacity, which enables the Type 01 to reach up to 644 km of range, and up to 515 km on sustained highway speeds. Using a 350 kW rapid DC charger, the Type 01 can add up to 321 km of range in as little as 13 minutes.

Jaguar says despite its visual heft, the Type 01 has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and has the center of gravity positioned below the driver’s hip point, promising a dynamic and engaging vehicle. 

The hardware consists of a double wishbone front suspension, an integral link rear with air suspension, plus switchable volume air springs and active dual valve dampers. For better maneuverability, the Type 01 has all-wheel steering, where the rear wheels can turn up to 6 degrees to give a better turning radius.

The Type 01 also has five drive modes: Jaguar, Dynamic, Efficient, Ice & Snow, and Curated. These alter the behavior of the active air springs, as well as the response of the steering and accelerator. 

Jaguar says orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first client deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year. Prices start from 130,000 GBP (PHP 10.8 million).
