While it may have taken quite a while, we finally got to see how safe the Geely Okavango is. And it did not disappoint.

As part of its arrival in the ASEAN market as the Proton X90, the Geely Okavango has been put to the ASEAN NCAP test and passed with flying colors, scoring a perfect five stars across the assessments in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assists, and Motorcyclist Safety (MS).

Based on ASEAN NCAP data, the X90 provided good protection to adult occupants in the frontal impact test while side impact protection was adequate for the 7-seater MPV, leading to an impressive score of 37.75 out of 40 in adult occupant protection.

In terms of child occupant protection, the X90 scored high marks in the impact tests, as well as ease of child seat installation on its ISOFIX anchors, resulting in a score of 17.79 out of 20.

Of note, the Okavango being offered in Malaysia as the Proton X90 is fitted with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS for added safety. As a result, the 7-seater MPV scored 15.71 out of 20 in its standard safety assist features.

Lastly, the X90 in Malaysia also has blind spot detection which helps in motorcycle collision avoidance. This feature netted the X90 a score of 12.50 out of 20 in the Motorcyclist Safety assessment.

Overall, the X90 garnered 83.75 out of 100, resulting in a five-star rating in the 2021-2025 ASEAN NCAP tests.

While many extra safety features such as the ADAS and blind spot detection are not present on the Okavango being sold in our market, the body structure itself is effectively the same. The results speak for themselves that the Okavango is one of the safest 7-seater MPVs out there.
